Attacks on Female Education

As a group, we were concerned about the issue of education for girls and women around the world. We focused on investigating the status of education for females in the Arab world, especially countries in the Middle East such as Jordan, Pakistan and Afghanistan, where the traditional Islamic culture has great influence on society. We wanted to understand the primary reasons that prevent or hold girls back from continuing their primary and secondary education. A few of the causes we discovered are pretty surprising, including the lack of government support, control or funding for girls education, and even education in general; lack of family support for girls to be educated, the impact of cultural and religious traditions that discourage girls from receiving an education, practical geographic reasons as well as obvious economic realities. We made this video in the hope that our investigation could help to spread awareness of the constant battle and efforts made to educate girls and women in so many countries. Something as simple as going to school and learning how to read, an activity that we as Americans often take for granted, is a daily struggle in other parts of the world.
